Vinyl smoothers have several uses, helping to press wallpaper onto the surface and ease it into place, smoothing papers out to eliminate creases, and as a straight edge to give an accurate, true cut. Suitable for most wallcoverings and at its best with thicker or heavier wallpapers with robust surfaces, the flexible blue sprung steel blade is hard enough to eliminate bubbling for the optimum adhesion to the wall and flexible enough not to tear the paper. It's also useful as a straight edge for cutting papers with a sharp knife, giving an accurate, true cut at the top against ceilings, coving, etc. and the bottom against skirting board, dado rails, etc. The smoother can also be used for patching holes, taping and jointing drywall, but note that it is not suitable for smoothing freshly applied plaster. It comes with a rubber blade protector which should be removed before use and replaced afterwards to protect the blade and store it safely.
